// Analysis and solution of failure in a the Mixed Plastic Plant mill used in raw materials recovery.
Abstract

Abstract.
This paper was carried out to clarify the causes of the failure of a mixed plastic plant mill due to the fracture of one of the
subjection screws of the mill knives. The investigation showed that the threaded knives joints with the rotor is designed in
such a way that if the pretension is not the appropriate one, it is produced an inclination of the leading face of the screws.
This causes supplementary flexion stress which produce inevitably the fracture. The torque needed to keep the pieces
properly joint was determined in order to guarantee the absence of supplementary flexion stress. A group of modifications
were also carried to elevate the resistance to the fatigue of the union.
Key words: Plastic mill, threaded joints, initial stress, flexion stress.
