Babbit AVE-F1 cubano para la recuperación de chumaceras en las turbinas de las centrales termoeléctricas // Cuban Babbit AVE-F1 for turbine bearing recovery in power plant
Abstract

Abstract
The antifriction alloys known by the generic name of Babbitt and composed of tin as the base metal. In Cuba, this material is currently imported from Russia, so the main objective of this work is to characterise the Cuban-produced Babbitt AVE-F1 obtained by centrifugal casting. First of all, a device was built to obtain a babbitt piece by the aforementioned casting process. Then, the specimens were prepared according to the established standards. The microstructure, hardness and compressive strength are studied and compared with the same properties of the Russian babbitt B-83. The microstructure of both materials is found to be similar. Differences in hardness and compressive strength were observed. Therefore, it is concluded that Babbitt B-83 has better properties. The present work represents an advance in the reconditioning process of babbitt sliding bearings in the Cuban industry.
Key words: Babbitt AVE-F1, babbitt B-83, tin alloys, centrifugal babbitt casting, sliding bearings.
