Diseño de un Canal de ensayos hidrodinámicos para medir la resistencia al avance de embarcaciones // Design of a Towing Tank to measure boat’s total hull resistance
Abstract
Abstract
The Chilean Navy has promoted research, development, and innovation, marking a position inside the academic world, hence, generating instances for its students to be fully involved in activities of this nature. Hand in hand with the above, in 2018 students of the Academy were awarded monetary resources to carry out a project to implement an academic-size towing tank laboratory for research and teaching in the maritime field, project that was postulated to the contest of the Institutional Development Fund of the Ministry of Education. This work shows the design process that allowed the implementation of a academic-sized towing tank to measure the total hull resistance of boats through the study of the behavior of different hulls to scale, as well as the arguments of the students to determine the different characteristics of the water tank, tow truck, towing and speed control system, and data acquisition system.
Key words: towing tank; total hull resistance; simulation; naval construction.
