Abstract

The processes combination is a solution to the aging steam power plant because it allows to increase the power and to improve its efficiency. Named Repowering in the specialized technical language. The combined cycle diesel-steam modifies the classic solution of the Repowering by combined cycle with gas turbines when being when diesel motors are substituting these. The objective of this investigation was the quantitative evaluation of the reheat steam power plant processes combination with fuel oil-fired diesel gen sets as combined cycle diesel-steam. These gen sets are electrically connected to power station node. The unit chosen for this work is a 100MW reheat steam power station. Using the waste heat from the fuel oil-fired diesel gen sets three alternatives were proposed substituting the turbine regenerative bleedings in heating feed water as repowering way. The three proposals cases were calculated and compared determining in each a resulting their effectiveness. Another original alternative, which allows the utilization of all the possible heat released by the gen-sets exhaust gases, also produces reductions and allows for greater operational flexibility, but it must be studied further in detail.
