Abstract

Mechanical fatigue is a permanent object of study for engineers and researchers interested in the behavior of materials. The objective of this work was to formulate a new definition for mechanical fatigue. A procedure was proposed that is based on the literature review, from which a binary matrix was developed with 37 definitions of fatigue and 49 factors treated in them. With the application of the Jaccard index, another matrix was obtained that was processed in the UCINET software and with the NetDraw tool the social network of the relationships between the different factors was represented. Among the results, three groups of factors that influence fatigue and which are those factors that have greater centrality were obtained. The multiplicity of factors that influence fatigue failure was demonstrated once again. In this research, a new definition was proposed based on the three stages that occur during fatigue failure.
