Determinación de las propiedades de los polvos de carburo de tungsteno cementado para la fabricación de insertos // Determination of the properties of cemented tungsten carbide powders for the manufacture of inserts
Abstract
Abstract
In the current context of industrial development, the use of cemented carbide occupies an important place in the production of inserts for cutting tools. The objective of this work is to determine the values of apparent density, flow rate and size of the powder grains used in the manufacture of P30S inserts by the national industry. The procedures for the control of bulk density and flow rate (according to ASTM B 212-13 and ASTM B213-13 respectively) as well as average grain size were applied. The techniques used were through the application of the Hall funnel (which was manufactured for this purpose) and optical microscopy. The values obtained for the apparent density, the flow rate as well as the average grain size for the P30S powder, corresponded to this designation. The results of the density and hardness measurements of the manufactured inserts were contrasted.
Key words: cemented carbide powder; apparent density; grain size; flux rate.
